DMD’s VP Visits Middle School for Career Day

April 28, 2011

This morning Scott Bussert, Vice President at DataMart Direct presented at Haines Middle School for Career Day.  He spoke to the kids about what is like to Work in Marketing in the Digital Age.

They reviewed the definition of Marketing what it means in everyday life:

  • Wikipedia: the activity and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers
  •  Reality… a process to convince a customer that a product or service is worth spending their money on

Besides discussing what marketing means today one of the major highlights of the presentation was QR codes.  They got to see a couple examples of how QR codes are being used today, such as in magazines, in stores at retailers, on real estate signs and much more. Scott even printed a QR code on a static cling substrate and when the code was scanned it lead the students to their homework site.  The kids got a real kick out of this.  They immediately stated to discuss how “cool” it was and how they were going to use a QR code.  Below is a sample:

By the time Scott left the QR code static clings were all over school and all the kids were buzzing about it!  QR codes are finally starting to make a splash in the U.S. can’t wait to see where they will pop up next!

***Haines Middle School sends their thanks to Scott Bussert for participating in Career Day! A hand written thank you still goes a long way!
